It is hard to believe the second month of school is here already! During the month of September, the students learned our classroom and school wide expectations. All of our students have successfully settled into their classrooms.
Our Open House on September 27th was well attended. Parents were able to visit a number of classrooms throughout the evening to learn classroom expectations as well as the different themes and concepts that will be taught in their classes during the school year. Mr. Howell, from our IT Department, helped a number of parents register for the parent portal. In addition, a number of our families attended the Title 1 presentation by our AIS teachers in the LGI Room. The purpose of the presentation was to help families better understand the services our teachers provide to support title 1 students. Thank you to our PTA for providing refreshments for our parents in the cafeteria. There were a number of information tables representing various community organizations set up in the common area for parents and students to visit. We appreciate everyone that joined us for our Open House!
On September 21st many of our students were rewarded for completing their summer reading assignments. Students from grades 1-6 were able to make their own sundaes using ice cream and toppings donated by Stewart’s. In total, we had about 300 students that completed their summer reading assignments! Thank you to the members of the Key Club and HS Football team that helped to serve the ice cream. We certainly could not have done it without their assistance. Thank you to our local Stewart’s for donating the ice cream for the celebration!

Always contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress. Please remember that we will have an early dismissal on November 15th and no school on November 16th for Parent-Teacher Conferences. First quarter report cards will only be distributed at conferences. Please contact your child’s teacher to set up a date and time in November to meet. Thank you for your continued support!

VR’s Vision: Our school is a safe and caring community where students learn to think critically, grow socially, and develop a love of learning that will last a lifetime. We will be polite, work hard, and have fun as we SHOW PRIDE at Van Rensselaer Elementary School.
