Welcome back!

Students and Parents,
We are excited to begin our 2019-20 school year!  The building is cleaned and ready to go, but feels empty without the students filling the halls and classrooms.  That will change on Thursday, September 5th, when they all come back!
We have made a few changes this year to improve the safety and the productivity of our students:
We have new start times that will significantly reduce wasted idle time, related behavior issues, and traffic issues.  We have partnered with the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA to help parents that may have difficulty with the new times.  Please reach out to them as necessary.
We are trying to improve our traffic patterns for Jr/Sr. High and Elementary drop offs as well as afternoon pick up. Traffic has been a frustration and a safety issue.  We hope that everyone is on board to make these improvements together.
We have a renewed emphasis on attendance.  It is important that everyone understand that attendance is a major predictor of success throughout school.  Students that are regularly absent, tardy, or signed out early experience a measured decrease in success at school.  We want to work together to help every family to set our students up for success.
We are able to provide many new resources to meet the mental health needs of our student body through our new Project Aware grant.  This is helping us to train staff, partner with community resources, and provide more direct support for our students in need.
We are rolling out Chromebooks for students in grades 5, 7, and 8 to take home.  This transition into digital learning will require some parent participation.  If you are a parent of a student in one of these grades, please review our laptop handbook and plan to join us at our laptop safety meeting on the evening of Tuesday, September 10th.  We will hand out the laptops at that meeting.
We are offering many more distance learning classes this year for our students to choose from.  We will continue to expand our slate of electives to provide more engaging and relevant material to our diverse student body.
In general, we are excited for all of the changes this year and can’t wait to get started!
