School Budget Vote

Projected Tax Benefit for Individual Property Owners:  While the overall school tax levy will increase for 2011-2012, it is expected that due to a significant increase in the total taxable assessments in the City of Rensselaer, individual property owners will see a small reduction in the property tax rate.  Like last year, the exact amount of any school tax rate reduction will not be known until the summer and is dependent on the actual, final total taxable assessments and if any changes are made by the State to the STAR property tax reimbursement program.

The Annual School Budget Vote will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 between the hours of 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m.  To be eligible to vote you must be:

• 18 years of age by the date of the vote;

• A resident of the City of Rensselaer for at least 30 days prior to the vote; and

• A citizen of the United States.

• You do not need to own property in the District to be eligible to vote.

New York State law requires that you must be registered before you are permitted to vote.  If you have voted in a school election or General Election from an address within the District within the last four years, your name will appear on the Rensselaer County voting list.  For those residents who are not currently registered to vote, a voter registration day will be held at the Rensselaer City School District in the Office of the District Clerk on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
