Principal's Message

The Van Rensselaer Elementary School offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for children who are at the beginning of their education. The curriculum, the atmosphere, and the concern of the staff are all intended to help each child learn and grow in a cheerful and friendly environment.

The educational goals of the elementary school program are to develop in children a mastery of basic skills while providing them with opportunities for personal and social growth. The elementary curriculum combines a comprehensive basic skills instructional program with opportunities for creative and physical expression. An integrated language arts program provides learning opportunities in the areas of listening, organizing, synthesizing, communicating, and expressing. When necessary, remedial and developmental assistance is provided by specialists in reading, speech therapy, and special education.

The TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books), TumblePuzzles, and TumbleQuizzes, as well as TumbleResources for teachers. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which have been licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format.

Some authors include Doreen Cronin (Diary of a Worm), Eve Bunting (Pop's Bridge), and Kate Di Camillo (Louise, Adventures of a Chicken).
