Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community,
Today, Governor Cuomo announced that there will be no in-person summer school. Students that would normally attend summer school will only have a remote learning option. Those students and parents will be contacted directly by the school district to make arrangements. He also announced that school provided meals and day-care will continue for the duration of the summer. We will get more information out about that as we solidify plans to continue providing meals.
Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day. There will be no remote learning. Enjoy the long weekend! The Board of Education had adopted an updated school calendar reflecting the 6 additional days of instruction that happened in April due to the elimination of spring break. Now the last day of school related activities for students is Wednesday, June 17th. Summer will start early!
We are organizing a process to drop off textbooks, library books, instruments, and Chromebooks at the same time as picking up any personal belongings, yearbooks, medications, and report cards. We will try to be a one-stop-shop without even getting out of your car. In an effort to ensure safe social distancing, this process will take place over the three day period of 6/15 – 6/17. We will have more details as we approach those dates.
The Board of Education has adopted a budget for public vote that includes a 19.5% tax increase. This fiscal emergency requires as much information and communication as possible. We have put together a comprehensive webpage designed to provide resources and answer questions related to this budget. Taxpayers need to know the what, why, how, and direct results of this particular budget proposition. I recorded this video to help walk the community through the webpage and show people how to use the tools and resources available. We hope this is helpful in answering questions. As always, if you do have more questions, please email me at email@example.com.
