Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community,
We are here! School is opening on Tuesday! We can’t wait to see these kids.
There are still many questions coming in, so here are some quick reminders:
Due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, we are in a hybrid model. Students have been designated to group 1 (Bused from south of John St. and some walkers) that will begin live instruction on Tuesday, and group 2 (Bused from north of John St. and some walkers) that will begin with remote instruction on Tuesday.
Bus routes have been posted to the website and are in Schooltool. The stops should be the same as last year, but your kids may have different buses and times. Due to our screening process, elementary students will need a responsible adult with them to take them home from the stop because anyone with a temperature of 100 or higher will not be allowed on the bus. Please help us with this new safety procedure.
Parents dropping off students, please do not get out of your car, but wait for a second while we take their temperature curbside so that you don’t have to turn around and come back should your child have a fever of 100 degrees or higher. Doors will open at 7:15am for the JSHS and at 8am for VRES
We have split elementary drop off into two entrances to improve traffic flow. Students in PK-2 should get dropped off at the elementary parent drop off loop. Students in 3-6 should be dropped off outside the auditorium entrance. If you have kids in both of those categories, you can choose which stop to use, but please only stop once and drop them all off.
You should have heard from your VRES teachers by now about their expectations and how you will expect to receive assignments. JSHS students will have a more defined schedule as remote learners will join the live classes daily. Our first day will be A-Day– periods 3, 4, 7, and 8. Remote learners should prepare to log on to Google Meet (visit your Google Classroom pages for links) at 7:45, 9:25, 12:00, and 1:05.
We have secured some more Chromebooks and will begin to distribute them to students in grades 1-4 as soon as we have them ready. We have chargers and can still provide more iPads to students in PK and K. If your student is in grades 5-12 and still has not gone through the process of getting their laptop, this will severely hinder the learning process for them. If you complete the Chromebook pickup process by watching the video and sending in the signed paperwork, we will be able to send the laptop home with them when they come to school. Without those tasks complete – students will not have access to those machines.
If you still have any questions about opening, you really should check out our welcome back page. It has answers to many questions about the school year including expectations, supplies, where to find info, how to log into Schooltool, COVID-19 safety procedures, School Messenger, medication dropoff, Chromebook pickup, bus routes, and how to request meals during remote instruction.
Thanks in advance for your help with the morning screening process and for sending students in with masks on. These things will make our first week go much smoother.
As always, if you have more questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
