Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:
Rensselaer County informed us today that we have a student that tested positive for COVID-19. This student had previously elected for fully remote instruction, therefore, has no contact with other students on school property. All contact tracing procedures were followed by the county.
As we all work together to maintain safe practices and protocols, it is important to rely on facts, not rumors when it comes to issues involving student health and privacy. We are in daily contact with Rensselaer County and work in partnership with the Department of Health to share all pertinent information to keep our community safe while maintaining appropriate privacy.
We have really enjoyed having the students back in the building! A school without kids is a sad place to be. We would like to thank the parents that are helping by transporting students and keeping our bus numbers lower. With the current capacity, we are going to revisit the reopening plan to see if there are any students that we can feasibly bring in more often.
When we finish distributing the laptops for students in grades 5-12 and have a better grasp on what we are able to give to our younger students, we will be reaching out and trying to get devices in the hands of more of those students. We apologize for the delay, but demand for devices far exceeded what was requested in the spring.
