Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:
We want to express our appreciation for the student, parent, and community support this morning. Today was a stressful day for many of us due to COVID-19. Parents were very understanding and cooperative in swiftly picking up students that were identified as contacts. Everyone clearly wanted to be part of the solution in maintaining public health. Students were a little concerned, but they asked great questions and were quickly settled and satisfied with their roles in protecting each other. It is always amazingly heartwarming when students exhibit poise and maturity beyond their years. Community members made a point of showing support at student pick-up time in how they felt situation was handled and communicated.
We would also like to thank the Rensselaer County Department of Health for clear, timely, and accurate information. The partnership between our local department of health and the schools within the county continues to prove to be invaluable. Everyone in the school systems is safer because of it.
The Questar III Health and Safety team was on site within an hour with a commercial fogger to treat the contaminated classroom and isolation room. They also provided guidance and expertise in proper cleaning procedures for this situation.
With all of the things we find ourselves worrying about, it is certainly comforting so see a school, a community, and a region come together quickly to efficiently address this safety issue. These are the moments when we get the full experience of what #RensselaerStrong means. In a day that could be described as horrible, we get to see the best in people and fully appreciate our #fRAMily. Everyone involved should be proud of themselves for that today.
With all of that said, we would like to remind everyone that nobody should enter the building if they do not meet the screening criteria that we have shared and posted at each entrance. If you have been in direct contact with a COVID-19 positive person, do not come in. If you have been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting results, do not come in. If you have traveled to a state on the NYS travel advisory list, do not come in. If you are experiencing any new or unexpected COVID-19 symptoms, do not come in. Thanks in advance to all of you for helping and doing your part to keep the community safe.
