Parental Consent for Rapid Antigen Testing

Members of the Rensselaer City School Community,

Our district has been notified of a Van Rensselaer Elementary student that tested positive for COVID-19.  The student has not been in the building and the case represents no new exposure or risk.

Governor Cuomo stated yesterday that schools will soon be required to perform COVID-19 testing. Our district has coordinated with Questar III BOCES to prepare the rapid testing program as outlined by New York State’s Micro-Cluster Strategy.

The district is looking for volunteers through parental consent.  Testing is not mandatory for any student and no one will be denied the ability to attend school because they choose not to be tested. However, if we do not receive consent from at least 20% of students that enter the building, we may be forced to close our school and shift to fully remote instruction.  Our goal is to keep school open, our #fRAMily together, and continue live instruction safely in 2021!

See a video that Questar III produced to show what the process will look like.

We ask that you review and complete the online consent form that will be texted and emailed directly to parents – and we thank you for your partnership.
