Members of the Rensselaer City School Community,
We thought that the COVID-19 infection numbers were trending downward compared to last week, but the county reported a record number yesterday. The district was also notified about another remote student that tested positive. This case poses no new risk or exposure. The district remains focused on what actions we can take to keep all students and staff safe. Our reopening team met on Friday to review procedures and review reminders about good practices.
Schools are still awaiting guidance on testing from the state. Our district is prepared to administer the Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Antigen Tests when the time comes. Thanks to all of the parents that responded to the consent form. That participation will allow us to successfully complete this testing requirement to remain open.
Our reopening team also discussed the logistics of bringing back 2nd and possibly 3rd grade students for both weeks as we did with 1st grade. We want to provide as much opportunity as our capacity allows for. More information on this “Phase 3” of our hybrid plan should be shared this week.
It is more important than ever to work together to minimize the spread. Please be diligent about daily screenings before sending students to school. If your student will be attending in person this week (Group 1), don’t forget to fill out the weekly screening confirmation before sending them in on Monday.
Thanks to everyone involved for our partnership in safety and education. #fRAMily
