Returning from Spring Break

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather over break.  We are excited to welcome back Group 2 (North) on Monday, April 12. If your student will be in the building this week, please remember to fill out the weekly confirmation of daily screeners.  Many people were able to travel this week with the domestic travel restrictions lifted.  It is important that we all work together monitor any symptoms to minimize any risk.

Vaccination eligibility has expanded to include everyone 16 years of age and up.  Any pertinent information that may help members of the Rensselaer community interested in signing up will be shared with you all.  We are also looking at partnerships that may make vaccinations conveniently available right at school.

New York State has released official guidance on the CDC recommended distance reduction from 6ft to 3ft in classrooms.  This week, time will be spent evaluating this guidance to decide how to adjust our plan and provide more in-person instruction to the extent we can do it safely.  Any substantial changes to our operations will take weeks to plan and implement.  Everyone is anxious to get the kids in school more often!

New York State also passed the annual budget that includes some significant increases in aide.  The district will use this information to redesign the long-term fiscal plan and propose a budget that will hopefully meet the needs of the kids and community.  Everyone should know that this help is very timely and appreciated based on last year’s school budget.

Let’s make the 4th quarter of the 2020-21 school year the best quarter of the year.  It’s time to finish this crazy year together strong.
