Updated Bus Runs, Student Data Privacy, and Volleyball

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

We have updated our Welcome Back page to include the latest JrSr and VRES bus run information.  Each child’s transportation information is also located in SchoolTool.  If there is any information that you need that is not yet listed in that page or located in SchoolTool, please let us know.  We are still improving the one-stop-shop for that kind of information.

Our technology department made a major change to Google this morning to protect student privacy and remove all student personally identifiable information (PII).  All student email addresses and passwords were changed. This also affects student SchoolTool login, but no change was made to parent SchoolTool accounts.

Students will receive their new credentials on the first day of school or parents can retrieve them from the full desktop version of SchoolTool (you will not be able to see them on SchoolTool Mobile or on the app). Credentials are located on the “User Defined” tab.

This temporary inconvenience will allow ongoing innovation in the classrooms while safely protecting the data of our students.  We thank everyone in advance for patience in the change.

We were informed today that our JV and Varsity volleyball teams may have been exposed to COVID-19 last week.  Contact tracing has been completed.  All parents have been called and appropriate quarantines are in place.  Due to this situation, those teams will not practice again until Monday, 9/6.  We will continue to use the protocols adopted by our local department of health for any COVID-19 related cases.

One last friendly reminder, don’t forget to get those tax bills sent to Rensselaer City SD, Tax Processing Unit, P.O Box 16307, Albany, NY 12212 by August 31st.  School bills are no longer paid at City Hall.  We don’t want anyone to unnecessarily be responsible for late fees.

Our staff will be in the building this week in preparation to welcome our students back on the 7th.  Hopefully everyone has been able to log into SchoolTool to see schedules and teacher assignments by now.  Don’t forget to visit MySchoolBucks.com to register for Chromebooks for all students in grades 5-12. Specific instructions are available on our Welcome Back page
