Bus Delays & COVID-19 Update

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

As our driver shortage continues, this is the preliminary plan for the week:

All AM pickups should run close to on-time.  Some stops have been redistributed, so please don’t be surprised if a different letter bus picks up at your stop.  Just jump on because they are all coming to school.

The PK afternoon bus for the south side of the city will run approximately 15 minutes late all week.  The afternoon elementary I bus will also be approximately 15 minutes late for drop-offs.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding. If you know anyone that may be interested in driving a bus, please encourage them to start a conversation with our district.  We are hiring!

Since Friday, the district has been notified of five more students from various grades that tested positive.  Two of these students have not been in the building.  We also have been notified of an additional staff member that has tested positive.

We continue to experience far more COVID-19 cases in the past week than previously.  There has not been an outbreak at school, but we do seem to have many individual cases. Many of the cases are a result of household spread (siblings, parents, etc.) and outside activities that do not practice layered mitigation strategies such as masks, distancing, and additional cleaning.

Everyone wants to keep kids in school safely.  We are all working together to make that happen and thank you for your partnership in that goal.  Please remember to send students to school with a mask and to keep the kids home if they have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. We will get through this together.
