Early Dismissal, Masks, & Covid-19 Update

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

Don’t forget that Friday, 12/17 is an early release day.  Pre-K and JrSr High will release at 11:45 a.m. and grades K-5 will release at 12:30.  Our staff will have professional development in the afternoon.  Please remember that attendance is important on early release days.  Let’s work together to emphasize the importance of education by sending all of the students in.

Last Friday, the New York State Health Department Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett issued an updated Determination on Indoor Masking Pursuant to 10 NYCRR 2.60.  The state’s existing mask requirements for pre-K to grade 12 schools will continue. This now includes any gathering on school grounds where students may be expected to attend.  Previously the guidance was only for in the building.  We now must ask parents that get out of cars for student pick-up to wear masks.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks to everyone for your continued patience concerning our ongoing minor bus delays.  We appreciate the understanding of our lack of drivers.

We continue to receive responses for the call for substitutes, but we need many more.  If your recent graduate will be returning home between semesters, please encourage them to pick up some temporary work as a substitute here at school.   Please continue sending people our way.  If you are interested, all necessary paperwork is on our employment page.

We have been notified of 4 students and 2 staff members that have tested positive for COVID-19 since last week.  Please remember to send students to school with a mask and to keep the kids home if they have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.  We will get through this together.
