Mask Questions

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

Due to a court decision in Nassau County last night, there have been many questions about mask requirements today.  The school had plenty of conflicting direction concerning this matter today, but we successfully kept the distraction out of the classrooms and stayed focused on instructing and supporting our students. Many thanks to everyone for that collaborative focus.  It seems that the NYS Appellate Court has approved a temporary stay on the matter and there are no changes to the current mask mandate for at least the rest of this week.

As the rules continue to change over time, please continue to have patience as the district navigates the situation.  This helps us to minimize distractions and confusion in the educational environment.  We will certainly communicate out any changes once they are official and stable.  We,collectively, and I, personally, truly appreciate the support of the community in this matter.

Don’t forget that we have a second at-home test kit for each student as we did earlier this month. They may be picked up at each office or requested by email in the same way as our first round.

We have been notified of 8 students and 2 staff members that have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday.  Hopefully, the pace continues to slow down. Please remember to send students to school with a mask and to keep the kids home if they have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.   We will get through this together.
