Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:
We have several new resources and announcements for the community today:
SchoolMessenger Community access
We are excited to announce that community members may now sign up for our SchoolMessenger broadcasts. You can choose which broadcasts to receive, such as Elementary School, Jr Sr High School, Budget, Community Events, Athletics, etc.
This can be done at https://asp.schoolmessenger.com/rensselaer/subscriber/. Please share this information with any friends and neighbors that may be interested.
Parents can now monitor their students’ internet activity and add additional restrictions during non-school hours via the GoGuardian Parent App. Parents can block access to certain websites and set time limits (e.g. no access after a certain time.) We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child, and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her. Instructions to access the app are available on our website.
Landfill Permit Renewal
The S.A. Dunn Mine and C&D Landfill has filed to renew their operating permit and the Department of Environmental Conservation has responded. This evaluation process will include input from stakeholders including the school district. As a stakeholder in the process, the district will submit a letter to the DEC opposing the renewal. We all agree that it makes no sense to operate a landfill adjacent to a school. The district has also offered to host stakeholder input meetings when those are scheduled. All voices should be heard.
Additional COVID-19 Home Test Kits
For those that would like some additional home COVID-19 tests, we still have an abundance of them in each office. Parents can now pick up 5 more tests per student at each office. Elementary parents can also email your teacher to have the tests sent home with students. JrSr High parents can email firstname.lastname@example.org to request that the tests be sent home. PLEASE do not reply to this email for the request.
