Getting Ready to Return!

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

The new school year is almost upon us!  We had great participation in our summer school programs and are looking forward to a “normal” return to school this year!  The first day of classes will be Tuesday, September 6th.  You can find the 2022-23 school year calendar on our website.

We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students and breathing life back into the school building.  An empty school building never feels quite right.

The district will begin this year with a focus on improving attendance and engagement.  We want all students to take ownership of their future and to ensure that education is a rewarding experience.  Parental partnership in this goal will be the key to success and the foundation to the best possible education we can offer.

Speaking of involvement, the city is working to improve open spaces and public parks!  We all know that getting out and enjoying time with friends is part of a well rounded childhood, so this is important.  The city is looking for your input to best meet the needs of the community.

We know that everyone is shopping for back to school supplies.  Please note that the VRES and JSHS supply lists are posted on our website.  Our PTA has teamed up with School Tool Box to make that shopping easier for those pressed for time.

Additionally, there will be a “Back2School” community event and supply distribution at Riverfront Park on 8/27 10am-3pm & 8/28 11am – 2pm.  The whole family can enjoy games, food and entertainment. Special guest appearances include former Harlem Globetrotter and anti-bullying advocate Tay Fisher, the Sienna Women’s Basketball Team and regional DJ Nate the Great!  You can even reserve your bag in advance!  You can also pick up at the event with proof of residency. Children must be in attendance for this option.

Getting ready for school should always be this fun! Keep an eye out for our annual welcome back page with comprehensive answers to questions about schedules, grades, transportation, and much more.  We will see you soon!
