Update from the Superintendent

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community:

How did December sneak up on us like that so quickly?  There is certainly no shortage of celebrations at this time of year.  Please keep an eye on the school calendar for all of the fun holiday, sporting, and community events.

This is also the beginning of Flu season.  We are already seeing a significant number of students and staff that are affected.  Please see a letter from our health office concerning symptoms and preventative measures.  Additionally, New York State Education Department has released recommendations for health precautions this week.  Please don’t send students to school if they are clearly demonstrating these symptoms.

You may have noticed a decrease in the frequency of our bus delay notifications.  We are delighted to report that RCSD has two new bus drivers!  Hopefully our transportation services can operate with more regularity moving forward.  Many thanks to the community for your patience and cooperation during our driver shortage.

In case you missed it, our Social Media Mental Health Specialist, Chris Johnson provided some great insight for students and parents on WTEN yesterday.  Check it out!  We need to work together to increase awareness and mitigate the negative effects.
