Character Education

“Building our Future”

Van Rensselaer Elementary School’s Character Education PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) Program is a program that reinforces and recognizes students who are able to meet or exceed expectations. School wide expectations were created and agreed upon by staff and students and are reviewed by all teachers with their students annually. The expectations are posted throughout the school so it is clear to the students what is expected of them. The character traits of our program are Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness, and Trustworthiness.

In support of our school vision, the slogan for our program is SHOW PRIDE at Van Rensselaer. We need our students to Be Polite, Work Hard, and Have Fun. It is important that our students SHOW PRIDE in their school, community, and in everything that they do.

As part of the program, classes earn points when they show pride by meeting or exceeding expectations in school. We recognize Star Students and Bucket-fillers (students caught being positive). In addition, students earn Show Pride Tickets for positive behavior.
