Connection

Members of the Rensselaer City School District Community,

As we are sitting through a rain delay of our football game this evening, I’d like to share some reflections and reminders from opening day. The best day of every year is when we refill the empty hallways of the school building with excited students and staff.  Opening day will always be special and today was no exception.  Thanks to everyone that helped to spread that sunshine.  With that said, we do have a few kinks to iron out in the new school year.

Every “first day” has extra traffic because parents love to drop off kids on the first day and goodbyes are often extended.  Thanks to everyone for your patience with our backup this morning.  Please remember moving forward that elementary students can also be dropped off at the Auditorium entrance to save you time and speed the line up.  Also please remain in your car and have the kids prepared to exit when you stop in an effort to keep the line moving for everyone.  Teamwork always makes the process go more smoothly.

We had some issues at the end of the day with elementary pickup.  Please contact the elementary office and verify if your student(s) ride the bus, walk, or get picked up.  We would all like not to repeat the confusion and frustration of this afternoon.  Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are in Jr.Sr. High and have not yet signed up for a Chromebook, PLEASE DO SO ASAP.  If you need help, we have shared a tutorial.   We want the devices in students’ hands so we can avoid any disruption to instruction.

When you have a minute, download the iPhone or Android version of our new RCSD App so that you are always up to date on notifications.  We will be using this resource for parent communication from the district and directly from teachers in an effort to have a one-stop-shop for our parents.

We are off to an awesome school year.  Let’s make it even better together!

Joe
