From Sketch to Stove: A Creative Collaboration!

Posted Date: 02/13/26 (02:34 PM)

Our 8th Grade Art and Family & Consumer Science (FACS) classes cooked up something truly unique this week! In a cross-curricular "Sketch to Stove" lesson, students teamed up across departments for a challenge that started with a surprise.
The Creative Process:

  • The Gumball Challenge: Partners randomly selected a food item from a gumball machine—whatever they pulled was their project for the week!
  • In the Studio: Art students led the way in drawing their food in the iconic, colorful style of Wayne Thiebaud, using oil pastels and colored pencils to bring their "sweet" visions to life. 🖍️✨
  • In the Kitchen: Partners then headed to the stoves to cook and plate the actual dish together!
The week culminated on Friday with a formal presentation. We were honored to have teachers and Mrs. Radez, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, join us to see (and taste!) the incredible results.

Amazing job to our 8th graders for proving that art and cooking are the perfect pairing!
