
6th Grade's Food History Museum
Mrs. Mahar’s 6th Grade Home & Careers 6th Grade Class and Mrs. Jenner’s 6th Grade Library Skills Class did a Food History Museum. They researched different foods, created a poster, and made some delicious treats to share. Teachers, staff, and classmates were then invited to see what they accomplished.
Student projects include: Pizza, Popcorn, Hershey Chocolate, Whoopie Pies, Coca-Cola, Cereal, Kool-Aid, Doughnuts, Buffalo Chicken Wings, and Twinkies.

UPDATED: Chromebook Collection Notice for Grades 7-12
As the school year comes to a close, tomorrow the RCSD IT Department will be collecting student Chromebooks from grades 7-12. Thursday is the last full day of classes for grades 7-12, and we will be collecting Chromebooks from student classrooms at the end of the day.
Students who need a Chromebook to prepare for their Regents exams may keep it until their final exam. Please remember to bring your Chromebook, along with its case and charger, when you come to take your Regents exams.
Seniors: Please remember to bring in your devices when you come for the senior picnic.
Please ensure that you return the Chromebook in its case along with the USB-C charger provided at the beginning of the school year.
Grades 5 & 6: Chromebooks will be collected on the 20th.

🎓 Senior Walk-Through and Walk Out Celebrations! 🎓
This morning, our seniors participated in the heartwarming Senior Walk-Through of the Elementary School. They walked the halls alongside our Pre-Kindergarten students, creating lasting memories and inspiring our youngest learners.
At the end of the day, our seniors had their Walk Out! They paraded through the middle and high school, sharing smiles and high-fives, before exiting the school one final time.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We are incredibly proud of you and excited for all the amazing things you will achieve in the future. 🎉🎓

🎶 Middle School Chorus Shines at American Young Voices Concert! 🎶
Wednesday June 5th, our Rensselaer Middle School Chorus had the incredible opportunity to participate in the American Young Voices concert at MVP Arena. This is the largest youth chorus event in the country. Over 1200 students were involved from three different states in the Northeast (New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont) to create an unforgettable musical experience.
Our students performed beautifully, showcasing their talent and dedication. We are so proud of their hard work and the amazing performance they delivered.

Elementary Field Day Success! 🎉
We had an incredible time at today's Van Rensselaer Elementary School Field Day! Our students from Pre-K to 5th grade enjoyed 16 fun-filled stations, including Tug O'War, Diamond Relay, Hockey Relay, Tire Relay, Beach Towel Relay, Plunger Relay, Spoon Relay, Obstacle Course, Lasso Relay, Pizza Box Relay, Garbage Can Shot Relay, Hula Hoop Relay, Soccer Relay, Pool Noodle Relay, Noodle Jump Relay, and Inflatables.
The weather was perfect, and our students showcased amazing energy and enthusiasm throughout the day. A special thank you to Coach Bailey and all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work in organizing this fantastic event. We also want to extend our gratitude to retired Coach Dara for returning to help make sure Field Day was a success.
Thank you to all the teachers, staff, and volunteers who helped make this day a huge success.
Additionally, a big thank you to the VRES PTA for providing an ice cream truck 🍦 to help refresh us on this hot, beautiful day.

Algebra Regents - Tuesday, June 4th
This is a reminder. Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4th grades 9-12 will NOT be in session we will be administering the Algebra 1 Regents exam. All students taking that exam and whoever has a regents review class should attend school. Students will ride the regular morning bus runs. There will be buses at 11:00 to bring students home from the Regents exam. Grades 6-8 will be in session for the full day.


8th Grade Food Truck Wars 🍕🚚
Mrs. Mahar's 8th Grade Home & Career Class recently held an exciting Food Truck War. Students crafted their own pizza doughs and designed creative food trucks for the competition. The winner for best pizza was Taco Pizza by Logan B, Adam H, Liam D, & Brody S.

Mrs. Hadden and Mrs. Kerr’s Class Poetry Slam
Mrs. Hadden and Mrs. Kerr’s Class held a Poetry Slam on May 23rd. Each student chose two poems to feature and read aloud. The Poetry Slam was so well attended and the families appeared to really enjoy all of the writing. Students completed seven types of poems and read two on the day of the event. Lots of snaps for a great bunch of kids!

Ms. Herrick's 10th graders weren't just reading Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam, the story of a teen in juvie ignited a firestorm of burning questions about incarceration's harsh reality. Sparking a raw discussion, our guest speaker shared his experience. The impact? Undeniable. Students, captivated, learned the true cost of a single mistake. One mistake. One life forever altered. This is the power of literature, of facing uncomfortable truths.




Rensselaer Junior Senior High School Marching Band Shines at Memorial Day Parade! 🎺🥁
The Rensselaer Junior Senior High School Marching Band, including the HS Concert Band and MS Advanced Band, delivered a fantastic performance at Sunday's Memorial Day Parade! Despite the hot and humid weather, the band played with unwavering strength and passion throughout the entire event. This was the largest group Mr. McGough has ever taken to the parade, and they represented our school and community with great pride and excellence. Well done to all the musicians for their dedication and outstanding performance! 🎶👏









Spring Into Girl Scouts
We are excited to host an Information Night for Students attending Van Rensselaer Elementary in the hopes of forming a new Girl Scout Troop. It will be Thursday, May 30th at 5:00 pm in our library.


Project AWARE and the PRIDE Center of the Capital Region are excited to announce that the first LGBTQ+ Youth Group meeting will take place at the Boys and Girls Club in Rensselaer, 544 Broadway, Rensselaer, NY 12144, this Thursday May 23rd from 6PM - 8PM!
Youth grades 8-12 are welcome to drop in as early as 6pm. Food and drinks will be provided for free. The group provides a safe and supportive space for social and peer interaction and support to the youth of Rensselaer County. Van Rensselaer Elementary 1st Grade Classes at June Farms
Mrs. Agans, Mrs. Blake & Mrs. Cooley's, Ms. Gentile's, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Kyer's 1st Grade Classes went to June Farms today as their Spring Field Trip. Students explored June Farm's grounds, and visited their pasture-raised animals.

Children's Mental Health Week at RCSD
This week, Rensselaer CSD joined schools across the country in celebrating Children's Mental Health Week! Our students participated in a variety of activities designed to promote mental and emotional well-being.
These activities helped to remind our students of the importance of taking care of their mental health.
We are proud of our school community for promoting mental and emotional well-being for all students!
