Rensselaer Athletics: Important Summer Updates & Fall Sports Information

As we head into the summer break, the Athletics Department wants to share some vital information regarding fall sports registration, upcoming start dates, summer weight room hours, and outstanding equipment returns.

1. Fall Sports Registration

Any student who has not yet signed up for a fall sport but wishes to play must register through the Health Office with our school nurse, Tammy Slingerland.
  • Contact Email: tslingerland@rcsd.k12.ny.us
  • Action Required: Please contact Nurse Slingerland to state your intent to play and pick up a registration/health history packet.
  • Important Reminder: All student-athletes must have an up-to-date physical on file at the school before the start of the season to be cleared to participate.

2. Fall Sports Start Dates

Please note the following official start dates for our fall athletic programs. Exact practice times and locations will be communicated later this summer.
  • Varsity Football: Monday, August 17, 2026
  • Modified Football, All Other Varsity & JV Sports: Monday, August 24, 2026
  • All Other Modified Sports: Monday, August 31, 2026

3. July Open Weight Room Hours

Open weight room sessions will be available this July from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM on the specific dates listed below. These sessions will be supervised by a varsity football staff member and are open to any student planning to play a fall sport.
  • July Dates: 1, 2, 7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 27, 28, and 30.
  • Building Entrance: Students must enter the school building through the High School Office doors.
  • Note: August weight room dates will be distributed during the final week of July.

4. Urgent: Outstanding Uniforms & Equipment Return

Any student who is still in possession of an RHS uniform or athletic equipment must return these items to the school as soon as possible.
  • Next Week: The athletic department will issue targeted emails to families with outstanding items.
  • Following Notice: Formal letters will be mailed out indicating the replacement costs for any items that remain unreturned.
