How A Bill Becomes A Law - With A Local Twist

Recently, Mrs. Lol got to work alongside Mrs. Connor and her senior Government Class to review the process of how a bill becomes a law. Students studied a mock bill, focusing on providing additional mental health supports in schools.
The first day, Mrs. Lol challenged the students to do some wondering. They looked at a series data based on the mental health support in schools, and students asked questions and came to conclusions based on what they saw.
The next couple of days, students were assigned specific roles, such as Parent Advocate, and had to prepare for a simulation. Student supporters of the bill would argue this could improve access to care and help students succeed. Critics were challenged to propose amendments to make the bill stronger for stakeholders.
The simulation took place on Thursday, and it was a great success. Overall, students agreed that schools need more support and more mental health funding in schools. It certainly would make the world a better place for all of us!
