Fire Safety Program Conducts Controlled Pod Burn for 10th Graders
Posted Date: 10/21/26 (10:10 PM)
Today, students in the district's Fire Safety Program participated in a live controlled burn demonstration, observed by 10th-grade students from a designated viewing area. The demonstration gave students an immersive look at fire behavior, allowing them to witness fire conditions and feel the radiant heat from afar in a controlled, safe environment.
The demonstration serves as the practical launchpad for the Fire Safety curriculum's upcoming unit on fire investigations. The pod setup featured a fully constructed living room model designed and built by students in NERIC's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, showcasing practical trade skills and cross-program collaboration.
The Rensselaer City School District extends its sincere gratitude to the Rensselaer Fire Department, Chief Brooking, and especially Captain Mooney and Firefighter Schumaker, as well as the NERIC CTE program, for providing our students with authentic, career-connected learning opportunities.
