Last week, Project AWARE and a group of students were presented the Morgan Wheeler Young Adult Award from the Mental Health Association in NYS (MHANYS) at their Annual Awards Dinner.

Paige Lawson, Adriana Roberts, Jessica Naing, Carla Torres and Kylee Munguia accepted the award for the work they have done to advocate for resiliency and mental health. Their work includes:
  • Local, State and National presentations on building resilient cultures
  • The creation of a peer to peer mentoring program, and
  • Advocating for Teen Mental Health First Aid across New York State. You can view their promotional video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86iOPLtrCts
The Morgan Wheeler Young Adult Award honors the life, voice, and advocacy of Morgan Wheeler, a passionate young champion in the mental health community whose courage and leadership helped elevate the voices of young people in recovery and mental health support. This award reflects Morgan’s powerful legacy - recognizing that youth with lived experience can drive change, inspire others, and contribute meaningfully to mental health awareness and advocacy within New York State.
